The Air Tour

(15-20 October, 2024)

Of the four elements, air is the least perceptible. Yet, air is a positive and creative symbol, the vital energy that we breathe and allows us to survive.

Air was also understood as atmosphere and heavens as reflected in the Christian symbolism that decorates the churches scattered across Sardinia, or as the place where, according to ancient belief, both the sun and the moon orbited and influenced the orientation of the nuraghi, holy wells and other megalithic monuments built for practical and religious purposes.

Air and sky mix in the legendary fight between devils and angels that took place above Cagliari when Lucifer who, thrown from his horse, fell and shaped the promontory of Sant’Elia, thus creating the so-called Sella del Diavolo (“Devil’s Saddle”).

Among the many caves across Sardinia, which due to their structure recall enormous lungs that allow you to breathe even in the bowels of the earth, we will visit the beautiful grottoes of Su Mannau.

The tour will then take us to visit the mines that have now become museums, where we can touch the daily life of the many workers who spent an entire working life in the galleries and rationed air.

The air of Sardinia can be also precious and strong, like the mistral, the wind that blows from the north-west, which stimulates the motion of the sea and constantly changes the shapes of the dunes at the desert beach of Piscinas. At the same time, it also folds and shapes the large monumental trees, making this landscape unique.

Air becomes the vehicle for the scents of plants, flowers, and gastronomy featured during traditional events and a cooking class in which we will put ourselves in the role of chef.

Finally, the Air itinerary also includes a Yoga workshop, a discipline closely linked to breathing and its movement, to search for inner balance with ourselves and outer balance with the environment and the companions with whom we will share travel and personal growth.

* The southern version of the well-known Festival of Cortes Apertas, a traditional and gastronomic event that takes place in the Barbagia region
