4 Elements Tours

Fire, Water, Earth, Air, the essential elements from which, according to the ancient thinkers, the whole world originated and by which it continues to live. The world, meant in its broadest sense, as a system that includes all creation: living beings and the environment in which they live, including time.
Birth and death, beginning and end, continuous change: all these concepts are contained and represented by the four primal elements, each of which sums up the existential dialectic, the perennial conflict between creation and destruction.

Fire, the creative and destructive power, in continuous evolution and at the same time always equal to itself.
Energy in its purest form, a purifying force that symbolizes the circle of life. It is the Sun that makes flowers bloom, fruits ripen, and shoots grow. It nourishes us.

Water, the principle of all things.
In many rituals, water plays a major role: it purifies, washes, quenches thirst and heals. It is complementary to the sun in providing nourishment to living creatures. It also symbolizes continuous evolution, always the same and always different, a metaphor for the course of life. It flows from the source and, after a more or less tortuous course, it reaches the sea, where it flows again.

The Earth, on the other hand, represents all that is solid, tangible, constant and moderated. In the astrological tradition, strong and reliable signs such as Taurus are linked to the earth. The earth is the womb that keeps the seed, protects it and, thanks to the cool of water and the heat of the fire, brings life.

Hence, the earth is seen as a mother, where the figure of the Mother Goddess, preceding the male deity, was at the centre of the cults of the most ancient populations.

Often depicted with a pregnant belly, the goddess was flanked by a male god who resembled a bull, which symbolized fertility in the union of male and female, earth and seed, water and fire.

Finally, Air, lightness par excellence. Among the four elements it is the one connected to the soul, spirit, fantasy and imagination. It is superfluous to emphasize its link with life: air is the breath, what allows us to nourish every cell in our body, the element without which no creature could live.

All the ancient traditions speak of fire, water, earth and air, and Sardinia, with its mysterious past, is no exception.

A legacy of the time when the elements, in their clemency or their fury, made the difference between life and death. And the first men, powerless in the face of so much strength, developed rites to invoke, thank, and appease those entities whose greatness they hardly perceived.
